MITAA USA ChapterMITAA-USA is now more than 5 years old, having been inaugurated on 10/10/2010. The fourth anniversary was celebrated by organizing a get-together on 12th Oct 2014 in Edison, New Jersey. Eight MITians, two of them with their spouses, gathered on that day in Hotel Mirchi and had some fruitful discussions, after introducing themselves with a brief resume of their careers since leaving MIT. While Sri V. Varadarajan, T 1185/IT came from Dallas, Texas, Sri Nithi Sivaneri, T22013/Aero, came, with his wife, from Morgantown in West Virginia. Sri T.S. Nageswaran, T 1284/IT, who was on a visit to US, came from Parsippany, New Jersey. Sri R. Gopalakrishnan, T 543/Auto, from Plainsboro, NJ, Sri R. Sundar, T 1597/IT, from Dayton, NJ and Sri Natarajan Krishnamurthy, T 07516/PT (35th batch) from Edison, NJ, Sri K.V. Bhima Rao, T 201/Elcs, founder member of the Chapter with his wife from Princeton, NJ and Sri T. Sundar Rajan, T 30120/Aero, Secretary of the Chapter from Guttenberg, NJ attended the meet. During the meeting, mention was made about the contribution by Sri Gopalakrishnan and Sri Sundararajan of our Chapter to the Book Bank established in MIT by Parent Chapter on a request from Sri C.V.S. Gopalan, Treasurer, Parent Chapter. They had bought six books between them and gave them to the Parent Chapter, carrying themselves or sending through MITians and friends going to India. After a brief discussion, members present offered to contribute further to this laudable cause. Sri Nithi Sivaneri straightaway offered to donate some of the books he has with him. It was a very good gesture and was heartily welcomed. The members deliberated on starting of centers in US under the umbrella of Main Chapter in New Jersey. All members agreed that this was, not only viable, but also necessary for a vast country such as this. When this Chapter was started, it was envisaged that there should be at least 3 Chapters-one in the East, which is the present one. In the central area, the suggested place was Houston and the third in the west, in LA or where there is a sizable cluster of MITians. There was complete unanimity on this. Sri Varadarajan readily offered his services to start one in Houston, near where he is based. Our database needs updating constantly and for this help from all members is constantly required and is requested. Sri Varadarajan, with the guidance of Sri K. Balasubramanianm, T 1442/Elcs, is actively pursuing the start of the Chapter in Houston. As it has happened to many Chapters in the past, MITAA USA has gone into a ‘Siesta’ and will soon wake up just as many other Chapters have done!
