The Seminar on Disruptive Technologies and the Impact on the Society

The Seminar on Disruptive Technologies and the Impact on the Society was conducted in chennai on 16^th Feb 2018  . Attended by alumnis, students from the engineering colleges of Chennai including MIT.

Highlights:

• Mr. Senthamil Arasu – President MITAA welcomed the gathering
• Mr. Ramachndran – Patron Mitaa who set the ball rolling by giving a perspective of the Seminar topic.
• Mr. Prashnat Mishra, Director, AON Service Corporation , Delhi gave an interesting key note address highlighting the impact of Technology on Modern World.
• Mr. P. Sivakumar – Director CVRDE  presented on the technological advancements made in CVRDE and it was greatly appreciated by the audience.
• Mr. V. Mathiyazhagan – V.P MITAA gave the vote of thanks for the inaugural session.
• Mr. K. V. Seshayee ,Win Broadband  spoke about IOT in personal lives with lot of examples from Google and Mobile products.
• Mr. Suresh Rajagopal – FSS Director spoke about the advancement in e transactions and  plastic card operations.
• Mr. S. Manivannan – Emergeion Director spoke about thelatest trends in DNA technology and how it helps in handling critical diseases.
• Mr. Ronald  Deepak, Emerson  spoke about the use of IOT in the industry sector.
• Dr. Kanchana Gopinath – Sony  spoke on the advancements made in the area of Robotics and AI.
• Mr. Karthick Athmanathan – Ashok Leyland spoke about  the Electric Vehicles status and how it will impact the mass transportation of our country.
• Prof. C.N.Krishnan – AU KBC Centre spoke about the impact of Web and google on Higher education and knowledge seeking.
• Mr. Vaidyanathan – Classle Knowledge spoke about the facilities offered by the technology in imparting education and knowledge to the remote location people also.
• The final session was a Panel discussion .
• Mr. Sivagnanam – AIA ,MSME , Chennai  highlighted the facilities offered by the MSME for different types of industries.
• Mr. Ramachandran and Mr. Seshasayee  answered all queries as part of the Panel discussion.
• Mr. Lakshmi Shankar, Secretary concluded the meeting with his vote of thanks.

SUMMITAA – 2

July 22 2016, Hotel Hilton

1. R. Balaji, chairman Organising Committee welcomed the gathering and the Chief Guest was introduced by Mr. P. Saminathan, Bangalore Chapter Secretary.
2. Chief guest Padma Shri Kiran Kumar, Chariman ISRO delivered the keynote address He is such a simple person. Mingled with delegates easily.  ISRO is into medical research also in addition to popping weather, defence and communication satellites. He spoke on ISRO activities and capabilities.
3. M.R. Senthamil Arasu – President dwelt on the activities of MITAA.
4. A. Rajadurai, Dean MIT spoke on the current status of the students and the institute.
5. “Innovation by India for India, the need and the Challenge” book was released by Sivan, inspired by Dr. Kalam’s interaction with the author Dr. V. Ramaswami, on Innovation. An endowment with 2.5 lakhs rupees was created to award a student for the best innovative idea.
6. B. Senthilnathan, Jt. Secretary, MITAA concluded the session with a vote of thanks.

7. Session on “A PEEP INTO THE FUTURE TECHNOLOGY” was an instant hit. N. Ramachandran, MD MELSS chaired the session.
   1. K. Sivan – 29^th batch Aero, Director, VSSC spoke on the future plans.
   2. K. Hariprakash – 30^th batch PT, CEO, GP Petroleum – spoke on lubricants. Nano robots with the oil to diagnose the engine.
   3. Kanchana Gopinath – 30^th batch ECE – DGM, Sony Software spoke on IOT.  I think the apps will decide in future what we eat and when we sleep etc.
   4. Ganesh Srinivasan – 40^th batch Rubber & Plastics, E.D Resil Chemicals – spoke on nano silicon technology.
   5. N. Raja – 35^th batch Auto – Director Toyota Kirloskar – spoke on the hybrid vehicles, driverless cars. Probably we should have floating vehicles to avoid the traffic jams.

8. Session on “Building on Entrepreneurship Platform for Our Alumni” was good. The session was chaired BY M. Umapathi, MD Voltech Engineers pvt. Ltd.
   1. N. Ramachandran – MD, MELSS spoke on Mitaa’s role on entrepreneur nurturing.
   2. Anand Surana – MD, ICEGEN spoke on Startpreneurship.
   3. M.A. Gaffar – MD, Structural solutions spoke on manufacturing set up.
   4. S. Madhavan – CEO, Green Quotient systems spoke on Serial entrepreneurship
   5. C. Shunmuganathan – MD, Sri kaliswari Metal Powders spoke on Family run business
   6. M. Rajagopalan – MD, Kovai Maruthi Paper & Boards spoke on creating Waste out of Wealth.

Hopefully our efforts in creating a platform for MIT entrepreneurs has advanced a bit.

9. Various chapters talked about their activities and networking.

Golden Jubilee Celebrations

July 23 2016, Rajam Hall, MIT

• Senthamil Arasu – President MITAA welcomed the gathering.
• T.M. Jawaharlal , Patron MITAA spoke about the 50 years of the Alumni Association.
• Governor of Tamilnadu DR. K. Rosaiah was the chief guest.
• Dean CEG, Registrar AU, Dean  MIT and former VCs , Director and Dean all gave felicitation address
• The 14^th and 15^th batch alumni who have completed 50 years after passing out from the college were honoured with the Goldies award.
• Prof. Jackson Chandra, Subba Rao of 1^st batch,  Mr. K.S. Jayaram of 8^th batch, Wg.CDR P.S. Murthy, Mr. B. Shankaranarayanan of 9^th batch, Mr. A. Ramanathan of 18^th batch  and Ms. Sudha Kidao of FFE  were honoured by the Governor.
• P. Narayanasamy, Dean, Member – Convenor Committee, AU, Dr. S. Ganesan – Registrar AU and Dr. A. Rajadurai, Dean MIT were honoured by the Governor.

• Foundation For Excellence (FFE), an organization awards the max. no of scholarships every year to MIT students among the many colleges where they interact..
• Many alumni from the earlier to the latest batches reflected on their nostalgic moments with the Institute.
• K. Lakshmi Shankar, Secretary MITAA gave the vote of thanks.
• The bonding among the alumni once again  very visible in the earlier batches
• The whole idea of networking still generates enthusiastic
• MITAA  is generally moving away from  only scholarship donors to creating more skill sets and mentoring for projects etc. It is  still miles to go!!
• The largest  group of delegates  was from 31^st batch around 14 nos, followed by 10 nos from 37^th batch and 7 nos each from 30^th batch & 24^th batch.

A seminar on Entrepreneurship was organized on 19^th February 2015 at MIT.

Highlights of the event:

1. M.R. Senthamil Arasu – President Mitaa, welcomed the gathering.
2. N. Ramacahndran – Chairman Organizing Committee seminar – spoke on the importance of entrepreneurship and how the institute and students can benefit out of this.
3. Thamarai Selvi – Dean MIT requested the entrepreneurs to support the department on new projects.
4. Nagendran chairman of Nagman Instruments gave the keynote address.

Session 1: Various support system for Entrepreneurs

• This session was chaired by Mrs. G. Rita – General Manager, SBI.
• V.C. Mouli – SDBI, Mr. M. Sreevatsan – NSIC, Mr. Sriram – Trilok Capital, Prof C.N. Krishnan – AU KBC Centre and Mr. V. Ramakrishan – MSME spoke about funding, incubation facilities.
• It was an eye opener for lot of young entrepreneurs and students who aspire to have their own business.

Session 2: Life Story Recall

The following entrepreneurs of MIT have shared their success stories.

• Gaffar – Structural Solution Private Limited, Hyderabad
• Narayanaswamy – Accord Software Limited, Bangalore
• Saraswathy – Pointel Solution Private Limited, Chennai
• Anbuselvan – Indsat Corporation, Chennai
• Rangaraj – Chemin Controls, Pondicherry
• Ramesh Prabha – Galaxy Group of Companies, Chennai
• Gnanavelu – Arul Devi Paper Mills Private Limited

All of them had wide experience ranging from Mechanical, Software, BPO, Die cast, Instrumentation, Communications and Paper industries.

The students and other members could feel the efforts and planning that go behind the running and growth of different companies

A seminar on the above theme was conducted on Jan 24^th 2014 at “HOTEL FORTUNE SELECT PALMS”, Thoraipakkam, Chennai.

Highlights of the programme:

• C.V. Shankar – Principal Secretary, Industries department, Tamilnadu was the chief guest. He spoke eloquently on the industrial atmosphere of the state and the various schemes initiated by the government..
• S. Thamarai Selvi, Dean MIT spoke about the institute and the industry interaction.
• N. Ramachandran – Chairman, Seminar Committee, MITAA spoke on the features of the seminar and how MITAA is trying to bridge the gap between the academics and industry.
• K. Srinivasan – MD, CUMI gave the keynote address.
• Balaji – President MITAA welcomed.
• Madhavan – Vice President MITAA gave the vote of thanks.

Session 1: Automation for productivity.

• The session was chaired by Dr. Prakash, HOD – E&I of MIT.
• A. Ramanathan of Reliance Group, Ms Gowri Kailasam of Rane Madras Limited and Mr. Dominic Savio of Valeo Thermal System spoke on how automation is used in their respective plants for productivity enhancement.

Session 2: Automation for quality

• This session was chaired by Dr. P. kanagasabapathy – MIT Professor.
• Sundarasekaran of Madras Fertilizers, Mr. Sairamesh of Technip India Limited and Mr. K. Srinivasan of Mel System and Service Limited spoke on quality improvement, done in their industry , through automation.

Session 3: Automation for work place safety.

• Lakshmi Narayanan consultant of GASCO, Mr. Umarkanth Safety Expert consultant, Mr. V. Venkateswaran of Saipem India Projects – spoke on how work place safety is ensured and improved by various process automation.
• Prof Murali and his team from Mechantronics department of MIT gave a demo on the various projects implementing automation for the regular process.

All session were followed by Question & Answer session. Lot of students from different colleges and professional from industries has taken part actively in the seminar.

The event was co-ordinate with ISA, South India chapter, Mr. Jayaprabakaran of ISA, addressed.

Mr. Senthil Nathan – MITAA gave the concluding remarks  for the seminar.
